A meat science educator at The Ohio State University focused on teaching, Extension outreach, and connecting livestock producers and consumers through science-based education.
Dr. Lyda G. Garcia is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Animal Sciences at The Ohio State University, where she teaches and mentors undergraduate meat science students while advancing education and outreach across Ohio’s livestock and beef industries.
Raised in rural South Texas, Dr. Garcia developed an early passion for livestock, agriculture, and education that continues to shape her work in and beyond the classroom. She is actively engaged in Extension programming, leading workshops, carcass evaluation events, and industry partnerships that connect producers and consumers through practical, science-based learning.
In addition to her teaching and outreach responsibilities, she serves as faculty advisor to the Meat Science Club, supervises the Meat Judging Team, and supports Ohio agriculture as a Spanish interpreter—helping expand access, inclusion, and opportunity across the agricultural community.
