FY24 Fall Refresh Still Image

We often think of June, July, and August as prime grilling months, but with the changing of seasons from summer to fall it’s not time to put away those grills just yet. Tailgating in support of your favorite football team is soon to be underway and we’re here to share our favorite tips and tricks to make your pregame meal unforgettable.

Prep Ahead

Prepare as much as possible from the comfort of your kitchen before you hit the stadium parking lot. Form burger patties, chop vegetables, or skewer your beef kabobs ahead to reduce the amount of supplies needed. Cook in advance when you can and reheat on the grill. Our Cheeseburger Dip can be made at home and warmed in a skillet on the grill for an impressive beefy appetizer.

As you pack for your day, check your cooking equipment before leaving. Make sure your grill is clean and ready to use. Check propane levels and have a back up propane tank and lighters on hand to cook with ease. Don’t forget a meat thermometer which is the best way to check for doneness and to ensure that your reheated, post-game snacks are at the proper temperature of 165°F.

Keep Food Safe

Don’t cross-contaminate raw and cooked foods. Bring two sets of tools like cutting boards, tongs and knives if you are working with raw meat since you won’t be able to wash them while tailgating. Use one set for raw food prep and one set for cooked foods.

Pack and store everything safely. Raw beef should be at the bottom of the cooler (or in another cooler all together), kept separately from other items. Use ice packs instead of ice to make sure food doesn’t get waterlogged.

Think Outside the Grill

Tailgating can include more than just burgers! Your grill can act as a fancy stovetop. Chili and stew can simmer in a stock pot for a warm meal on cold game days. We love this Simple Beef and Brew Chili that combines the flavors of ground beef, beer, black beans, tomatoes and chili seasonings to keep you full through the final play.

Did you know? The grill can also function as an outdoor oven. Pizzas, a small roast, or even a platter of Mexican-Style Beef Sausage Nachos are possible and perfect for serving a large crowd.
